In the Lao PDR, young people have little information on sexually transmitted diseases and reproductive health, and they have little access to reproductive health services. The risk of HIV infection for young people in particular will become greater as people’s mobility grows due to an increase or development of tourism, migration and urbanisation.

Hence the improvement of reproductive health services is essential, and the Japanese Government is very pleased to provide assistance to tackle this problem.

It is expected that through this project the Vientiane Youth Centre for Health and Development (VYCHD) will offer better reproductive health services and improve young people’s access to those services in Vientiane Capital and in the Lao PDR as a whole.
