“Japanese Culture Exchange”
Application Guideline

1. Program Overview
            Date: 19 to 26 March, 2019
            Visiting Area: Tokyo and Ibaraki prefecture in Japan
            Participants: 21 students and one supervisor
※ Two students will be nominated by the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR and the remaining 19 students will be selected by application screening.

2. Qualifications for Participants
  • Nationality: Applicants must be Lao nationals.
  • Age: Applicants must be 15 to 30 years old as of the program date.
  • Academic Background: Applicants must be students currently enrolled at upper secondary school, college or university.
  • Health: Applicants must be in good health.
  • Applicants must commit to sharing and disseminating both information on Japan and their experiences of the program by social networking service (SNS) etc., and Possession of a Facebook account with active postings.
  • Applicants who study Japanese Language and/or Japan-related fields are given priority.
  • Applicants who have participated in any programs organized by Japanese public organization are not qualified.

3. How to Apply
            The following documents should be submitted to the External Relations Department, Ministry of Education and Sports by 16:00 on 16 January 2019 (Wednesday).
  • Entry Form
  • Copy of Certificate of School Attendance / Student’s Card
  • Essay (in English, 300 to 500 words)
    “What do you find fascinating about Japanese culture?
    And what do you think about the good points about Lao culture as well?”
※ Students who live in local provinces can send the documents by E-mail (mentioned below).

4. Selection of Participants
  • Selection of candidates will be conducted by a selection committee comprising representatives of the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written examination and interview with the committee. (Notes: The examination and interview will be held on weekdays. Applicants might have to request permission for absence from school, if needed.)
