JENESYS2018 Japan-ASEAN Students Conference

1. Objective of Japan-ASEAN Students Conference 2018
            The Japan-ASEAN Student Conference is composed of students from ASEAN Member States (AMS), Timor Leste and Japan. This conference aims at promoting mutual trust and understanding among young people as well as at building a basis for future friendship and cooperation among the countries. This Conference is consisting of 6 groups as follows;
            Group A: Agriculture
            Group B: Energy
            Group C: Community Designing
            Group D: Health
            Group E: Gender
            Group F: Elderly Employment
The participants from Group A to F are expected to deal with the social activities positively, and to consider how they can contribute to the societies in AMS, Timor-Leste, and Japan.

2. Program Contents
            Date: 19 to 26 February, 2019
            Visiting Area: Tokyo (All group) and Tohoku area (Group A to C)
            Participants: 12 university students or graduate students
                                    (2 students per a group)

3. Qualifications for Participants

• Nationality: Applicants must be Lao nationals.
• Age: Applicants must be 18 to 35 years old as of the program date.
• Academic Background: Applicants must be students currently enrolled at college, university or graduate school.
• Health: Applicants must be in good health.
• Language Skills: Applicants must be good in English.
  (All lectures and explanations will be delivered in English, and all participants required to join the discussion in English)
• Applicants must have strong interest in social issues, and having interests or enough knowledge in each theme.
• Applicants must join the online meeting in January and February before this conference.
• Applicants who have participated in any programs organized by Japanese public organization are not qualified.

4. How to Apply
            The following documents should be submitted to the External Relations Department, Ministry of Education and Sports by 16:00 on 13 December 2018 (Thursday).

• Entry Form
• Copy of Certificate of School Attendance / Student’s Card
• Essay (in English, 400 to 500 words. Write an essay on the theme below, choosing one area from the following: Agriculture, Energy, Community Designing, Health, Gender, Elderly Employment)
  “What is the most imminent problem in the Lao PDR? How should the problem be solved?”

※ Notes: Students who live in local provinces can send the documents by E-mail (mentioned below).

5. Selection of Participants

• Selection of candidates will be conducted by a selection committee comprising representatives of the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR.
• Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written examination and interview with the committee. (Notes: The examination and interview will be held on weekdays. Applicants might have to request permission for absence from school, if needed.)
