 “Japan-ASEAN History of Development Cooperation”
Application Guideline
 
Japanese government would invite 10 undergraduate or graduate students to participate in the Japan-ASEAN History of Development Cooperation in the framework of the JENESYS 2022, which is a people-to-people exchange program between Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
In this time, five of the 10 students will be selected from among those who submits the required documents as outlined below and the other five students will be selected among participants of JENESYS online program by Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), an official agency for JENESYS 2022.
 
1. Program Overview
Date: January 25, 2023 – January 31, 2023
Place: Tokyo, Other local area
Number of Participants: 110 students of ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste (*10 students per country)
Language: English
Contents:
(1) Attend lectures on development of Japanese politics, economy, society, culture, history and diplomatic relations to promote a better understanding of Japan.
(2) Visit relevant ministries and agencies, high-tech and traditional industries, world heritage sites, provincial government offices, and participate in cross-cultural events, workshops, and discussions with local people.
(3) Participate in hands-on-learning experiences such as home-visits, and cultural arts events.
(4) Share information about Japan through reporting sessions and social media during/after the program.
 
2. Qualifications for Participations
  1. Applicants must be undergraduate student or graduate student having nationality of Lao PDR.
  2. Applicants must be 18 to 35 years old as of the program date.
  3. Applicants must have strong interest in theme of this batch, Japan-ASEAN History of Development Cooperation.
  4. Applicants should have sufficient skills of English.
  5. Applicants must be in good health.
  6. Applicants must commit to sharing and disseminating their experiences of the program and information on Japan through Social Network Services (SNS), etc.
  7. Applicants must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, at least three shots of vaccine are required.
  8. Applicants who have been to Japan are, in principle, not eligible.

3. How to Apply
The following documents should be submitted to the Lao Youth Union by 16:30 on November 18, 2022 (Friday).(※Extended from Novemver 17)
  • Entry Form
  • Copy of Certificate of School Attendance / Student’s Card
  • Copy of Vaccination Certificate
  • Copy of Passport (if you have)
  • Copy of Certificate of Language Proficiency (if you have)
  • Essays on the following topics (in English, 300 to 500 words)
“What do you consider to be the most significant achievement in development cooperation between Japan and ASEAN? And how can you contribute to further strengthen the cooperation?”
 
Notes: Students who live in local provinces can send the documents by E-mail (mentioned below).
 
4. Selection of Participants
  • Selection of participants will be conducted by a selection committee comprising representatives of the Lao Youth Union and the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend interview with the committee. (Notes: The interview will be held on weekdays. Applicants might have to request permission for absence from school, if needed.)
