JENESYS2025 ASEAN-Japan Students Conference
Application Information

The Japanese government will invite seven Lao university students to participate in the ASEAN-Japan Students Conference, held under the framework of the JENESYS2025, which is a people-to-people exchange program between Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
 
The aim of this program is to deepen understanding of the relationship between Japan and the ASEAN region, and to strengthen the network of friendship and cooperation among young people from ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste, and Japan. Through the exchange of ideas, participants will be encouraged to recognize their own abilities and potential, and to develop a sense of social contribution.
 
Participants will be divided into three mixed groups based on the following themes: “Climate Change and Disaster Prevention,” “Education and Digital Technology,” and “Startups and International Collaboration.” Each group will engage in discussions and present their action plans.
 
1. Program Overview
Date: January 13 to 20, 2026
Place: Tokyo, Other local area
Number of Participants: 77 university students from ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste (7 students from each country) 
Language: English
Contents:
(1) Lectures on Japanese politics, economy, society, history, culture, foreign policy, etc., related to the program theme or specific area.
(2) Site visits to educational and research institutions related to the program theme or specific area, cutting-edge technology, traditional industries, exhibitions, cultural heritage, and local governments, etc. Exchange events such as workshops and exchanges of opinions with persons related to the above site visits.
(3) Visits to various parts of Japan according to program theme and specific area, including homestays and hands-on events such as traditional arts and culture.
(4) Dissemination of information on what participants learned in the program and the attractions of Japan, during and after the program through Social Networking Services (online).
*Pre-Exchange Program (Prior to coming to Japan) will be conducted online on January 6, 2026.
 
2. Qualifications for Participations
(1) Applicants must be university (undergraduate) students as of the program date.
(2) Applicants must be 18 to 35 years old as of the program date.
(3) Those who have been to Japan are, in principle, not eligible.
(4) Applicants must have sufficient English proficiency.
(5) Applicants must be in good health.
(6) Applicants must have a strong interest and adequate knowledge of each theme applied for.
(7) Applicants must commit to sharing and disseminating their experiences of the program and information on Japan through Social Network Services (SNS), etc.
(8) Applicants must have sufficient internet connection to have access to the online pre-exchange programs by using own mobile phone and PC.
(9) Applicants must participate in all online pre-exchange programs.
(10) Applicants must possess a passport by November 6, 2025.
 
3. How to Apply
Applicants should read the application guidelines carefully and choose one of the three themes. 
(1) Entry Form, (2) a video message expressing your views on the theme you chose and willingness to participate in this program (in English, less than 2 minutes), (3) photo of student ID card, and (4) photo of passport (if you have) should be uploaded to the form below by 16:00 on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
 
 
4. Selection of Participants
Selection of participants will be conducted by a selection committee comprising representatives of the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR. 
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to give a presentation (within 3 minutes) at the interview with the committee on October 30.
